Is Scottish Jacobitism best understood as a 'national movement'?

Of all the strains of Jacobitism, that from Scotland could perhaps be termed most akin to a ‘national movement’. It is not immediately obvious why Scottish Jacobites – with their distance from the British monarch and exiled court that often gave less weight to Scottish, over English and Irish interests – grew particularly attached to the ‘pretender’ family. That said, it would be inaccurate to lump together all Scottish Jacobites as nationalistically motivated.
